HYBRID - NO CRANK / NO TCM COMMUNICATION / THEFT LIGHT ON / MULTIPLE DTCs

2008 Tribute Hybrid

DESCRIPTION

Some 2008 Tribute Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a theft lamp on, no communication with the Transmission Control Module (TCM), no crank, and/or multiple Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) including the following:

- P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (A)

- P0685 - Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Power Relay Control Circuit/Open

- P0A18 - Motor Torque Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

- P0A23 - Generator Torque Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

- P1000 - On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) Systems Readiness Test Not Complete

- P1A0C - Hybrid Powertrain Control Module - Engine Disabled

- P1A0E - Hybrid Powertrain Control Module - Motor Disabled

- P2105 - Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System - Forced Engine Shutdown

- U0101 - Lost Communication With Transaxle Control Module (TCM)

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.wing repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.








2. Inspect ground # 5 located on the driver side frame rail next to the transaxle and under the Battery Junction Box (BJB). Remove the # 5 ground fastener and examine the trademark located on the head of the ground fastener.





- If the fastener displays an arrowhead trademark located above the 8.8 property class stamp, replace the ground # 5 fastener with a new fastener and torque the new fastener to 15 lb-ft (20 Nm).





- If the fastener has the wave line trademark under the 8.8 property class stamp, remove any excess paint or debris from the fastener threads with a nylon or wire brush. Reinstall the ground # 5 fastener and torque the fastener to 15 lb-ft (20 Nm).

3. Verify repair.
