POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU) - AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE REMOVAL
Removal
All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See Lifting.
2. Disconnect the battery. See Battery Disconnect.
3. Drain the power transfer unit (PTU). See - Service and Repair.
4. Remove the front RH intermediate shaft. See Front Axle / Intermediate Shaft Removal/Installation.
CAUTION: A new PTU intermediate shaft seal must be installed whenever the intermediate shaft or PTU is removed from the vehicle.
5. Remove the driveshaft. See Removal and Replacement.
6. Remove the 4 bolts and the crossmember brace.
Vehicles equipped with 3.0L
1. Remove the exhaust as required. See Description and Operation or - Description and Operation.
All vehicles
1. Remove the 3 PTU heat shield bolts and the PTU heat shield.
2. Remove the 6 PTU-to-engine bracket bolts and the bracket.
3. Disconnect the PTU vent tube and position it aside.
4. Remove the 4 PTU-to-transaxle bolts.
5. Remove the PTU.
