FLUID PUMP ASSEMBLY

1.  Inspect the fluid pump components for the following:

•  Pump body and case for burrs.

•  Fluid passages for obstructions.

Note

•  Minor burrs and scoring may be removed with crocus cloth. If damage is found, install a new assembly.

2.  Using the SST, install the new converter hub seal.

3.  Install a new seal ring in fluid pump drive gear.

Caution

•  The chamber on the inside edge of the small gear must be UP when in the pump housing gear pocket. The dimple on the larger gear must be DOWN when in the pump housing gear pocket.

4.  Install the pump gears into the fluid pump housing. Apply multi-purpose grease to the pump gear to prevent scoring at start up.

5.  Install a new O-ring on the new fluid pump control valve.

6.  Install a new valve with the tab facing down.

7.  Assemble the fluid pump cover, adapter plate and fluid pump support.

8.  Install the bolts.

9.  Install a new fluid pump seal ring.

10.  Install the new seal rings.

Caution

•  Be careful not to overstretch the seal ring past the seal ring groove. Damage to the seal will occur.

11.  Warm up the fluid pump seal ring.

12.  Install the fluid pump seal ring.

Caution

•  Verify correct seal installation.

13.  Verify that the seal is installed correctly.

Note

•  Make sure seal grooves are clean and free of burrs. Make sure that the seal is seated into the groove.

Caution

•  Failure to correctly size the seal will cause damage to the seal when the torque converter is installed.
