Outline
• The glow plug relay will be activated in any of the following conditions:
-
• While the pre-grow timer is operating
• While engine coolant temperature is below 60 °C {140 °F} and the hold temperature timer is operating
• While the engine cranking
• When engine coolant temperature is below 60 °C {140 °F} and the long after-glow timer is operating
Timing Chart
• Glow system operates according to the conditions of engine coolant temperature as shown below.
Engine coolant temperature is below 60 °C {140 °F}
Engine coolant temperature is above 60 °C {140 °F}
Pre-glow Timer
• After the engine switch is turned on, the pre-glow timer preheats the swirl combustion chamber by activating the glow plug relay for several seconds according to the engine coolant temperature, and readies for engine start. While the pre-glow timer is operating, the glow indicator light is illuminated to indicate that glow system is operating.
Hold Temperature Timer
• When the engine switch is turned to and kept at the ON position with the engine cold, the hold temperature timer activates the glow plug relay for several seconds to heat the swirl combustion chamber. This improves startability after the engine switch is turned to and kept at the ON position.
Long After-glow Timer
• The long after-glow timer activates the glow plug for approx. 10 minutes after engine cranking when the engine is cold, improving ignition and combustion stability.
