Plug Gap Inspection/Adjustment

1.  Measure the spark plug gap.

•  If not within the specification, adjust the spark plug gap.

BP49 18 110 (BKR6E), BP50 18 110 (K20PR-U): 0.7—0.8 mm {0.028—0.031 in}
Except above: 1.0—1.1 mm {0.040—0.043 in}


Cleaning

Note
•  If there is no spark plug cleaner when cleaning the spark plug, remove the dirt from the spark plug completely and wash with gasoline.

1.  If there is carbon adhering to the spark plug, clean it with a wire brush and remove the carbon.


Visual inspection

1.  Inspect the following items:

•  If any of the following malfunction are indicated, replace the spark plug.
―  Insulator breakage
―  Worn electrode
―  Damaged gasket
―  Badly burned insulator (sparking side)


Resistance Inspection

1.  Measure the resistance of the spark plug using a tester as shown in the figure.

•  If not within the specification, replace the spark plug.
Spark plug resistance [25°C {77 °F}]
3.0—7.5 kilohms
