IDLE SWITCH INSPECTION [WLT-1, WLT-2]

Continuity inspection

Note

•  Perform the following test only when directed.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.  Disconnect the 8-pin connector of FIP.

3.  Inspect for continuity between the idle switch terminal E and ground using an ohmmeter.

Caution

•  Turning the idle switch with its connector connected can break the harness. Be sure to disconnect the connector when turning the idle switch more than one rotation.

4.  If not as specified, loosen the idle switch locknut and adjust the continuity by turning the idle switch.

5.  If not as specified, replace the idle switch. If the idle switch is normal, but PCM terminal voltage is out of specification, inspect as follows and repair or replace as necessary.

Open circuit

•  Power supply circuit (Idle switch connector terminal E and PCM connector terminal H through common connector)

•  Ground circuit (Idle switch connector terminal and body ground)

Short circuit

•  Power supply circuit (Idle switch connector terminal E and PCM connector terminal H through common connector to ground)

6.  Repair or replace faulty areas.

7.  Reconnect the 8-pin connector of FIP.
