Note

  • Apply a brass rod to the differential carrier inner notch, and tap out with a hammer to remove the outer bearing outer race.

3. Differential cage disassembly

1) Measure the backlash of the side gear and pinion gear using a dial gauge.

Standard: 0.10 to 0.20 mm { 0.004 to 0.008 in }

2) Remove the ring gear from the differential cage.

Caution

  • Remove the ring gear and differential cage without damaging them.
  • Do not insert tools, etc., between the ring gear and the differential cage.

3) Trim the staked section of the lock pin using a 5.0 mm {0.20 in} drill.

4) Remove the lock pin from the differential cage using a long drift punch.

5) Remove the cross pin from the differential cage using a brass rod and hammer.

6) Remove the pinion gear and side gear from the differential cage.

Note

  • Remove the pinion gear and side gear while rotating them in the same direction.

7) Remove the side gear thrust washer from the side gear.
