2. Preliminary and post procedures

1. Preliminary procedures

1) Open the engine hood.

2) Raise the vehicle.

3. Transmission air deflector removal

1) Remove the transmission air deflector from the frame.

4. Coolant drain

Refer to the following items about engine coolant draining.

Refer to "1.Engine 1D.Cooling(4JJ3 without DPD) coolant replacement".

Refer to "1.Engine 1D.Cooling(RZ4E-TC) coolant replacement".

5. ATF drain

1) Remove the drain plug from the oil pan.

2) Drain the ATF.

Note

  • Keep a record of the amount of fluid that is drained.

Caution

  • If chips and particles are found on the oil cleaner magnet when examining it, damage on the gear is suspected.
  • Examine the chips and particles on the oil cleaner magnet to determine what type of wear has occurred in the transmission.

3) Temporarily tighten the drain plug to the oil pan.

6. ATF cooler/warmer removal

1) Disconnect the engine coolant hose from the engine coolant pipe.

Note

  • Depending on vehicle specifications, work from the inner side of the left front fender or from the engine hood side may be more efficient.

4JJ3 equipped models

2) Disconnect the engine coolant hose and ATF cooler hose from the ATF cooler/warmer.

3) Remove the engine coolant hose and engine coolant pipe from the transmission.

4) Remove the ATF cooler hose and ATF cooler pipe from the transmission.

5) Remove the ATF cooler/warmer from the ATF cooler/warmer bracket.

6) Remove the ATF cooler/warmer bracket from the transmission.
