Handling electronic parts

1. Disconnecting the battery cables procedure

1) Turn all switches OFF.

Caution

  • After turning OFF the ignition switch (power mode for models with passive entry and start system), do not disconnect the battery cable within 3 minutes.
  • If the battery cable is disconnected within 3 minutes, the vehicle electronic control system may malfunction.

2) Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery terminal.

3) Disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery positive terminal.

Caution

  • Because disconnecting the battery positive cable first may cause a short circuit, always disconnect the battery ground cable first.

Note

  • Install in the reverse order to removal.

Tightening torque: 3.0 to 6.0 N・m { 0.3 to 0.6 kgf・m / 27 to 53 lb・in } M6

Caution

  • Clean the area surrounding the battery terminal, and apply a thin layer of grease to the terminal to prevent corrosion.

2. Connector circuit inspection

Insert the circuit tester probes from the harness side of the connector as indicated in the following diagram, and test for continuity. Upon completion, check the wire and connector for damage caused by the probe.

Caution

  • Do not insert the probes from the connection opening area of the connector, because this will cause the connector terminals to break.

Note

  • For waterproof connectors, the probes of the tester cannot be inserted from the wiring side due to the structure of the connectors. Therefore, inspect for continuity as indicated in the following diagram by connecting a testing connector prepared in advance to the connector to check, and connecting the probes of the tester to the harness of the testing connector.

Caution

  • Do not insert the tester probe into the rubber section of the waterproof connector, as doing so will reduce waterproofing capabilities and may result in corrosion.

Caution

  • Do not use an insulation piercing tester as it may cause the electrical wire to short circuit or corrode.

3. Disconnecting connector terminals of built-in lock type

1) Unlock any double-locks.

2) Insert a thin screwdriver-shaped metal rod from the connector opening area.

3) Push the metal rod in the direction of the arrow to release the lock, and pull the harness out together with the terminal.
