Sun sensor inspection

1. Sun sensor inspection

1. Resistance inspection

1) Remove the sun sensor from the instrument panel.

2) Disconnect the connector from the sun sensor.

3) Connect the positive terminal to the sun sensor connector terminal 2 and the negative terminal to the sun sensor connector terminal 1, and measure the resistance between the connector and terminal using a DMM.

Note

  • Cover the sensor with a cloth to prevent the sensor from being exposed to light directly, and measure.

Resistance: ∞ Ω, no continuity

Note

  • Measure the resistance between connector terminals when the inspection light is shone within 300 mm {11.8 in} of the sensor.

Resistance: other than ∞ Ω

Legend

  1. DMM negative terminal
  2. DMM positive terminal

2. Amperage measurement

1) Connect the connector to the sun sensor.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Expose the sun sensor to the inspection light.

Caution

  • Because the sensor may not respond to weak sun light, use a light bulb for the inspection light. Measure with the light placed within 300 mm {11.8 in} of the sensor.

4) Measure the current between sun sensor connector terminal 1 and the ground using a DMM.

Current: 20 μA or more
