2. Power steering unit reassembly
1. Hydraulic power steering unit (2WD (Except high ride suspension specifications))
1) Install the dust cover to the housing.
2) Install the mounting rubber to the housing.
3) Install the oil line to the power steering unit.
Tightening torque: 13 N・m { 1.3 kgf・m / 115 lb・in }
4) Install the tab washer to the tie rod.
5) Install the tie rod to the housing.
Tightening torque: 84 N・m { 8.6 kgf・m / 62 lb・ft }
6) Fold the tab washer over the flat surface of the ball joint.
7) Apply grease to the tie rod groove.
8) Install the boot to the housing.
9) Inspect the boot for the following.
- Swelling or dent in the boot
- The small end of the boot should be inserted into the tie rod groove.
10) Install the boot band to the boot using the special tool.
SST: 5-8840-2745-0 - clamp plier
Caution
- Do not reuse the boot band.
Standard: less than 2 mm { less than 0.08 in } Gap of crimp

11) Install the clip to the boot.
12) Install the tie rod end to the tie rod.
Tightening torque: 98 N・m { 10.0 kgf・m / 72 lb・ft }
13) Install the opposite boot in the same manner.
2. Hydraulic power steering unit (2WD (High ride suspension specifications), 4WD)
1) Install the dust cover to the housing.
2) Install the mounting rubber to the housing.
3) Install the oil line to the power steering unit.
Tightening torque: 20 N・m { 2.0 kgf・m / 15 lb・ft } Housing side
Tightening torque: 24 N・m { 2 kgf・m / 18 lb・ft } Cylinder side
4) Install the tab washer to the tie rod.
5) Install the tie rod to the housing.
Tightening torque: 108 N・m { 11.0 kgf・m / 80 lb・ft }
6) Fold the tab washer over the flat surface of the ball joint.
7) Apply grease to the tie rod groove.
8) Install the boot to the housing.
Caution
- Do not reuse the boot.
9) Inspect the boot for the following.
- Swelling or dent in the boot
- The small end of the boot should be inserted into the tie rod groove.
10) Install the boot band to the boot using the special tool.
SST: 5-8840-2745-0 - clamp plier
Caution
- Do not reuse the boot band.
Standard: 2.6 to 3.3 mm { 0.10 to 0.13 in } Gap of crimp

11) Install the clip to the boot.
12) Install the tie rod end to the tie rod.
Tightening torque: 98 N・m { 10.0 kgf・m / 72 lb・ft }
13) Install the opposite boot in the same process as above.
3. Electric power steering unit
1) Apply grease to the tie rod groove.
2) Install the boot to the housing.
Caution
- Do not reuse the boot.
3) Inspect the boot for the following.
- Swelling or dent in the boot
- The small end of the boot should be inserted into the tie rod groove.
4) Install the boot band to the boot using the special tool.
Caution
- Do not reuse the boot band.
Standard: 2.6 to 3.3 mm { 0.10 to 0.13 in }
SST: 5-8840-2745-0 - clamp plier
