ECM setting (4JJ3 without DPD)

1. ECM setting

1. ECM precautions

When replacing the ECM, the vehicle data must be written into the new ECM.

The scan tool used for the replacement procedure must be the same from start to finish. If the scan tool is changed midway, information cannot be written correctly.

2. VIN programming

1) Connect the scan tool to the DLC.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Select the scan tool item.

  • Diagnostics > Engine > 4JJ3 > Programming > Program VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)

4) Program the vehicle identification number into the ECM by following the on-screen instructions.

Note

  • If the vehicle identification number is not displayed, or if it is incorrect, input the correct vehicle identification number.

5) After the programming is completed, turn the ignition switch OFF for 30 seconds.

3. ECM data download

If communication could not be established with the old ECM, do not perform the ECM data download.

Verify the vehicle specifications before performing the ECM data download.

1) Download the following data from the old ECM to the new ECM.

  • Injector ID Code
  • Vehicle speed correction data

4. Injector ID Code download

1) Turn ON the ignition switch.

2) Select the scan tool item.

  • Diagnostics > Engine > 4JJ3 > Programming > Injector ID Code > Download Injector ID

3) Follow the directions on the screen and download the injector ID codes to the ECM.

4) After completing the download, turn OFF the ignition switch.

5. Vehicle speed correction data download

1) Select the scan tool item.

  • Diagnostics > Engine > 4JJ3 > Programming > Vehicle Speed Correction Data > Download Vehicle Speed Correction Data

2) Download the vehicle speed correction data to the ECM by following the on-screen instructions.

3) After completing the download, turn OFF the ignition switch.

6. Injector ID Code programming

If the Injector ID Code download is performed, do not perform this procedure.

Check the label attached to the engine cover at the time of factory shipment or the housing of each injector for the Injector ID Code.

If verifying with the label, verify only if the injector has not been replaced in the past.

Label on the cylinder head cover (Sample)

Legend

  1. No. 1 cylinder Injector ID Code
  2. No. 2 cylinder Injector ID Code
  3. No. 3 cylinder Injector ID Code
  4. No. 4 cylinder Injector ID Code
  5. Injector ID Code label

The correct order of the ID codes shown in the following injector illustration is as follows.
A9 D7 D3 DE CA DB DC D8 U5 CE EF D5 D4 00 00 93

Injector (Sample)

Legend

  • Diagnostics > Engine > 4JJ3 > Programming > Vehicle Speed Correction Data > Programming Vehicle Speed Correction Data

3) Program the vehicle speed correction data into the ECM by following the on-screen instructions.

4) After the programming is completed, turn the ignition switch OFF for 30 seconds.

8. Immobilizer function programming

Perform the immobilizer function programming only for models with immobilizer.

1) Connect the scan tool to the DLC.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Select the scan tool item.

  • Diagnostics > Body > WAM (Wireless Access Module) > Special Function > Engine Control Module > ECM Registration

4) Perform programming by following the on-screen instructions.

Caution

  • Entering an incorrect security code causes a security wait time.

Note

  • When turning the ignition switch ON and OFF by following the on-screen instructions, wait at least 5 seconds before turning it OFF or ON each time.

5) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 30 seconds.

6) Verify that the engine starts with all the keys.

9. ECU Lock

Note

  • Perform only when replacing with a new ECM.

1) Connect the scan tool to the DLC.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Select the scan tool item.

  • Diagnostics > Engine > 4JJ3 > Programming > ECU Lock

4) Perform ECU lock by following the on-screen instructions.

5) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 30 seconds.

10. DTC verification/clearing

1) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool.

2) If a DTC is set, clear the DTC.

3) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 30 seconds.

4) Turn ON the ignition switch.

5) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool.

6) If a DTC is set, go to the applicable diagnosis.
