Tightening torque

15: 122 N・m { 12.4 kgf・m / 90 lb・ft }

16: 78 N・m { 8.0 kgf・m / 58 lb・ft }

22: 73 N・m { 7.4 kgf・m / 54 lb・ft }

23: 64 N・m { 6.5 kgf・m / 47 lb・ft }

2. Final drive installation

1) Clean the mating surfaces of the rear axle and differential carrier.

2) Apply ThreeBond TB1215 to the rear axle and differential carrier mounting surface.

Note

  • Apply as shown in the following diagram.

Standard value

a: 3 mm { 0.12 in }

3) Install the final drive to the rear axle.

Tightening torque: 73 N・m { 7.4 kgf・m / 54 lb・ft } Bolt

Tightening torque: 63 N・m { 6.4 kgf・m / 46 lb・ft } Nut

3. Rear axle shaft reassembly

1. ABS specifications

1) Install the hub outer oil seal to the bearing holder using the special tool.

Note

  • Install the oil seal so that it is flush with the bearing holder.

Caution

  • Do not reuse the oil seal.

2) Apply LOCTITE FMD-127 or equivalent to the oil catcher.

Caution

  • If any LOCTITE runs onto areas where it should not be applied, wipe it off.

Dimensions

a. Diameter 146 mm {5.75 in}

b. Diameter 118 mm {4.65 in}

3) Install the oil catcher to the axle shaft.

4) Drive the wheel pin into the axle shaft using a hammer.

5) Fill the double taper roller bearing with SHOWA SHELL 6459 grease.

Standard: 16 g { 0.56 oz }

6) Set the special tool on a press.

7) Set the bearing, oil seal, and back plate on the special tool as shown in the following diagram.

8) Align the bolt and axle shaft with the center of the hole to insert.

9) Firmly fit the axle shaft into the double taper roller bearing.

2. Except ABS specifications

1) Install the hub outer oil seal to the bearing holder using the special tool.

Note

  • Install the oil seal so that it is flush with the bearing holder.

  • Do not reuse the oil seal.

3) Install the oil catcher to the axle shaft.

4) Drive the wheel pin into the axle shaft using a hammer.

6) Set the special tool on a press.

7) Set the bearing, oil seal, and back plate on the special tool as shown in the following diagram.

8) Align the bolt and axle shaft with the center of the hole to insert.

9) Firmly fit the axle shaft into the double taper roller bearing.

10) Set the retainer on the special tool.

Caution

  • Do not reuse the retainer.

11) Install the bearing to the rear axle shaft.

Note

  • Press-fit so that the bearing is secured to the axle shaft by the retainer.

12) Install the shim to the rear axle shaft.

13) Install the snap ring to the axle shaft using snap ring pliers.

Caution

  • Do not reuse the snap ring.
  • Replace the snap ring with a new one if any deformation or damage is found.

14) Measure the clearance between the shim and the retainer using a feeler gauge.

Standard: 0.00 to 0.20 mm { 0.000 to 0.008 in }

Note

  • If the value exceeds the standard value, replace the shim and measure again.

4. Rear axle shaft installation

1) Apply BESCO L-2 grease or equivalent to the axle case oil seal lip section.

2) Install the axle case oil seal to the rear axle case using the special tool.

3) Measure the dimension shown in the following diagram.

Standard value

a: 34.5 to 36.1 mm { 1.36 to 1.42 in }

4) Clean the mating surface of the rear axle case and bearing holder.

5) Apply ThreeBond TB1215 or equivalent to the rear axle case mounting surface.

6) Install the rear axle shaft to the rear axle.

Caution

  • Do not damage the oil seal.
  • If the bearing holder installation bolt has been removed from the brake, do not reuse the bolt.

7) Install the bearing holder fixing nut to the rear axle shaft.

Tightening torque: 122 N・m { 12.4 kgf・m / 90 lb・ft }
