1. Inspection of steering free play
1) Idle the engine.
2) Set the vehicle in the straight ahead position.
3) Operate the steering wheel.
Note
- Move it lightly to the right or left.
4) Measure the play of the steering wheel.
Note
- Measure the movement of the circular circumference to where the front tires start to move.
Standard: 10 to 30 mm { 0.4 to 1.2 in }
5) Move the steering wheel to the front, back, left, and right, and inspect the following.
- Excessive play
- Looseness
6) Perform a test drive and inspect for the following.
- Hard steering
- Steering shimmy
- Pulling to one direction
