Rear wheel speed sensor inspection

1. Wheel speed sensor inspection

1. Visual inspection

1) Inspect the wheel speed sensor for the following.

  • Deformed cylindrical part of the sensor
  • Clearance between the plastic section of the sensor and the sensor mounting flange
  • Bent or deformed flange

Note

  • Replace the wheel speed sensor if a malfunction is found.

2. Measurement of the wheel speed sensor

The following shows the RL side measurement. Measure the RR side as well.

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Install the wheel speed sensor to vehicle.

3) Connect a 100 Ω resistor between wheel speed sensor connector pin 2 and the ground.

4) Apply a voltage of 9 to 16 V to wheel speed sensor connector pin 1.

5) Connect a DMM between wheel speed sensor connector pin 2 and GND.

6) Spin the tire at 1/2 rotation per second, and check that the voltage is within the range of specified values.

Standard: 0.5 to 2.0 V

Note

  • Replace the wheel speed sensor if the voltage is not within the range of specified values.
