Engine has overheated (4JJ3 without DPD)

1. Engine has overheated diagnostics

Engine coolant is insufficient.

  • Inspect water leak.
  • Refill engine coolant.

Insufficient engine oil or use of improper engine oil

  • Refill or change engine oil.

Loose fan belt

  • Adjust or replace.

Excessive fuel injection quantity

  • Diagnose the engine control system.

The fuel injection timing is inappropriate.

  • Diagnose the engine control system.

The fuel injection start pressure is low.

  • Diagnose the engine control system.

Defective radiator cap

  • Replace.

Radiator clogging

  • Clean or replace.

Restricted exhaust system

  • Clean or replace.

Thermostat malfunction

  • Replace.

Engine coolant temperature sensor malfunction

  • Repair or replace.

Water pump malfunction

  • Replace.

Defective cylinder head gasket

  • Replace.

Open circuit or short circuit in the throttle position sensor circuit

  • Repair or replace.
