Air conditioning system check

1. Air conditioning system check

1. Refrigerant pressure inspection

1) Close all the vehicle doors and, with the air source switch in the RECIRC position, turn ON the A/C and set the fan switch to MAX with the temperature adjustment in the MAX COOL status.

Note

  • Maintain this state for a few minutes to circulate the refrigerant in the air conditioning cycle.

2) Check both the high and low refrigerant pressures using a manifold gauge.

30 to 35 ℃ { 86 to 95 °F } Heating temperature

127 to 245 kPa { 1.30 to 2.50 kgf/cm2 / 18 to 36 psi } Low pressure side

1,373 to 1,667 kPa { 14.0 to 17.0 kgf/cm2 / 199 to 242 psi } High pressure side

3) If the high and low pressures are largely different from the reference pressure values, refer to checking the air conditioning system using the manifold gauge to check the system.

2. A/C system inspection using a manifold gauge

1) In addition to performing the refrigerant pressure check, verify that the refrigerant level is appropriate using the sight glass.

Note

  • Perform the sight glass check under the following conditions.
  • The outside air temperature is 35°C {95°F} or less.
  • The engine speed is 1500 rpm.
  • The A/C switch is ON.
  • The air source switch is in the RECIRC position.
  • The fan switch is in the HIGH position.
  • The temperature control knob is in the MAX COOL position.
  • The high pressure side is at 1,667 kPa (17.00 kgf/cm2 / 242 psi) or less.

2) If the outside temperature and the high-pressure side pressure are higher than the values shown in the illustration, the HFC-134a may be cloudy when its condition is checked on the sight glass. Because making a determination will be difficult in this case, move the vehicle to a shaded location or indoors, set the blower to LO and reduce the A/C load to bring the outside temperature and high pressure side pressure to the values or less. Then perform the check again.

3) Place a hand in front of the outlet and check whether the temperature of the air coming from the outlets matches the set temperature.

4) After completing the system inspection, remove the charging hose from the service charge valve.
