1) Inspect the steering column capsule for the following.
- Tightly fitting of the capsule to all brackets
- Any slack when pushed or pulled by hand
- No gap between the capsule and the bracket

2) Inspect the universal joint for resistance when rotating it.
There are universal joints in the following parts.
- Second steering shaft (Between the steering column and the second steering shaft)
- Lower second steering shaft (Between the lower second steering shaft and the power steering unit)
Note
- When resistance is felt, replace the second steering shaft or lower second steering shaft.
3) Inspect the tilt mechanism for the following.
- Smooth movement of the tilt mechanism
- When the tilt mechanism is locked, the steering column should be securely latched even if the steering wheel is pushed up and down.
Caution
- Do not release the tilt lever lock with the steering column removed.
