Tightening torque

15: 122 N・m { 12.4 kgf・m / 90 lb・ft }

16: 78 N・m { 8.0 kgf・m / 58 lb・ft }

18: 78 N・m { 8.0 kgf・m / 58 lb・ft }

22: 73 N・m { 7.4 kgf・m / 54 lb・ft }

23: 64 N・m { 6.5 kgf・m / 47 lb・ft }

2. Rear axle shaft removal

1) Remove the rear axle shaft from the rear axle.

Note

  • Remove together with the following parts.
  • Bearing holder
  • Back plate
  • Oil catcher

2) Remove the axle case oil seal from the rear axle case.

Caution

  • Do not reuse the axle case oil seal.
  • Because the axle case oil seal is damaged when the rear axle shaft is removed, replace the axle case oil seal.

3. Rear axle shaft disassembly

1. ABS specifications

1) Install the special tool to the rear axle shaft.

2) Remove the following parts from the rear axle shaft using a press.

  • double taper roller bearing
  • Oil seal
  • Bearing holder
  • Back plate

Caution

  • Do not reuse the following parts.
  • double taper roller bearing
  • Snap ring

  6. Oil seal
  7. Rear axle shaft

3) Remove the hub outer oil seal from the bearing holder.

4) Remove the double taper roller bearing outer race from the bearing holder.

Note

  • If the double taper roller bearing outer race cannot be removed by hand, use the special tool for removal.

5) Remove the wheel pin from the rear axle shaft using the special tool.

6) Remove the oil catcher from the rear axle shaft.

2. Except ABS specifications

1) Remove the snap ring from the rear axle shaft using snap ring pliers.

Caution

  • Do not reuse the snap ring.

2) Remove the shim from the rear axle shaft.

Note

  • If any shims are installed, remove them.

3) Grind the retainer surface using a grinder.

4) Remove the retainer from the rear axle shaft using a chisel.

Caution

  • Do not reuse the retainer.

5) Install the special tool to the rear axle shaft.

6) Remove the following parts from the rear axle shaft using a press.

  • double taper roller bearing
  • Oil seal
  • Bearing holder
  • Back plate

Caution

  • Do not reuse the following parts.
  • double taper roller bearing
  • Snap ring

7) Remove the hub outer oil seal from the bearing holder.

8) Remove the double taper roller bearing outer race from the bearing holder.

Note

  • If the double taper roller bearing outer race cannot be removed by hand, use the special tool for removal.

9) Remove the wheel pin from the rear axle shaft using the special tool.

10) Remove the oil catcher from the rear axle shaft.

4. Final drive removal

1) Remove the final drive from the rear axle.
