1. Rear drum brake inspection

1. Cleaning

1) Remove the adjuster rod from the adjuster bolt.

2) Clean the adjuster bolt and adjuster rod.

3) Apply grease to the threaded portion of the adjuster bolt.

4) Install the adjuster rod to the adjuster bolt.

2. Visual inspection

1) Inspect the rear drum brake for the following.

  • Wear
  • Damage
  • Other malfunctions

Note

  • Repair or replace if any abnormal conditions are found.

2) Inspect the back plate with bolt for the following.

  • Wear
  • Corrosion
  • Abrasion
  • Scratches
  • Rust
  • Deterioration
  • Other malfunctions

Caution

  • If replacing the bolts driven into the back plate, replace them and the back plate as a set.

2. Brake drum inspection

1. Visual inspection

1) Inspect the brake drum for the following.

  • Wear
  • Corrosion
  • Abrasion
  • Scratches
  • Rust
  • Deterioration
  • Other malfunctions

2. Inner diameter measurement

1) Measure the inner diameter of the brake drum.

3. Runout measurement

1) Measure the brake drum runout.

0.15 mm { 0.0059 in }

3. Brake shoe inspection

1. Visual inspection

1) Inspect the brake lining for the following.

  • Wear
  • Corrosion
  • Abrasion
  • Scratches
  • Rust
  • Deterioration
  • Other malfunctions

2. Thickness inspection

1) Inspect the thickness of the brake shoe.

Standard value

a: 5.0 mm { 0.197 in }

b: 1.0 mm { 0.039 in }
