Excessive load detected on 4WD part
DETECTION CONDITION
•  4WD control module detects excessive load
FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
•  4WD protection condition (4WD control paused)
•  4WD warning light: Flashed
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Driving conditions in which load of specification or more continued to be applied to 4WD-related parts
•  Transfer malfunction
•  Coupling component malfunction
•  Rear differential malfunction

1
ALLOW VEHICLE TO COOL DOWN
•  Switch the ignition off and allow the vehicle to cool down.
Go to the next step.

INSPECT TRANSFER FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Shift the selector lever to the N position.(ATX)
•  Shift the shift lever to the neutral position.(MTX)
•  Lift up the vehicle.
•  Turn the propeller shaft and rotate the front wheels.
•  Do the front wheels rotate smoothly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the transfer, then go to Step 4.

INSPECT COUPLING COMPONENT AND REAR DIFFERENTIAL FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Shift the selector lever to the N position.
•  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Access the following simulation item using the M-MDS:
―   CUP_SOL
•  Lift up the vehicle.
•  Turn the simulation item CUP_SOL on and turn the 4WD solenoid on.
•  Turn the propeller shaft and rotate the rear wheels.
•  Do the rear wheels rotate smoothly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 4.
4
VERIFY THAT THE SAME DTC IS NOT PRESENT
•  Clear the DTCs from the memory.
•  Using the M-MDS, perform the 4WD control module DTC inspection.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the 4WD control module.
No
Go to the next step.
5
VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCS ARE PRESENT
•  Are any other DTCs output?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
