HANDS-FREE FUNCTION DOES NOT OPERATE [POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) SYSTEM]

Description

•  The liftgate does not auto open/auto close even though the kicking motion is made in the direction of the foot-motion detection sensors.

Detection condition

•  A correct kicking motion was not performed.

•  The personalization setting for the hands-free function is turned off.

•  The power liftgate (PLG) control module stores DTCs related to the following.

―  Connector or wiring harness malfunction

―  Instrument cluster configuration not implemented

―  Instrument cluster configuration data error

•  Foot-motion detection sensor malfunction

•  Foot-motion detection unit malfunction

•  Power liftgate (PLG) control module malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step	Inspection		Action
1	VERIFY IF CORRECT KICKING MOTION WAS PERFORMED • Verify with the customer how the kicking motion was made. • Is the customer’s kicking motion correct?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	The system is normal. (Advise customer how to make correct kicking motion.)
2	VERIFY HANDS-FREE FUNCTION SETTING • Verify the hands-free function settings on the center display screen. (Refer to the [PERSONALIZATION FEATURES] in the workshop manual) • Is the hands-free function on?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Turn the hands-free function on, then go to Step 6.
3	PERFORM POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE DTC INSPECTION • Perform the DTC inspection for the power liftgate (PLG) control module using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE].) • Are any DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE].)
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS FOOT-MOTION DETECTION SENSOR • Inspect the foot-motion detection sensor. (See FOOT-MOTION DETECTION SENSOR INSPECTION.) • Is the foot-motion detection sensor normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Replace the foot-motion detection sensor. (See FOOT-MOTION DETECTION SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
5	DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS FOOT-MOTION DETECTION UNIT • Inspect the foot-motion detection unit. (See FOOT-MOTION DETECTION UNIT INSPECTION.) • Is the foot-motion detection unit normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
5		No	Replace the foot-motion detection unit. (See FOOT-MOTION DETECTION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
6	VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION IS RESOLVED • Does the hands-free function operate normally?	Yes	Complete the symptom troubleshooting. (Explain contents of repair to customer)
6		No	Repeat the inspection from Step 1. • If the malfunction recurs, replace the power liftgate (PLG) control module. (See POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
