FRONT SEAT WARMER UNIT INSPECTION

Warning
•  Handling a front seat equipped with a side air bag improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions in the Workshop Manual before handling the front seat (side air bag integrated). •  If the sliding mechanisms on both sides are not locked after assembling the front seat, the front seat will operate accidentally while the vehicle is driven, which could result in serious injury. After assembling the front seat, shake it up and down and verify that the sliding mechanism on the both sides are locked.
Caution
•  If the slide lever is operated after the front seat is removed, the left/right slide positions will deviate and the adjuster unit could be damaged after the front seat is installed. After removing a front seat, do not operate the slide lever.
•  Verify that there are no malfunctions in the forward/back slide of the seat and in the adjuster unit after installing a front seat.
•  When performing the procedure with a front seat removed from the vehicle, perform the procedure on a clean cloth so as not to damage or soil the seat.
•  When the passenger's seat is removed, perform the occupant classification sensor inspection using the M-MDS after installing the passenger's seat. (See OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR INSPECTION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)
•  When the passenger's seat is replaced with a new one, perform the occupant classification sensor calibration using the M-MDS. (See OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR CALIBRATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)

Simple Inspection

1.  Place a cooling agent on the seat cushion (thermistor).

2.  Operate the seat warmer switch to turn on the seat warmer.

3.  Touch the seat cushion and the seat back to verify a temperature increase.

4.  If a temperature increase cannot be verified, go to the resistance inspection. (See Resistance Inspection.)


Resistance Inspection


Driver-side

Seat cushion side
1.  Switch the ignition to off.
2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
3.  Disconnect the driver-side seat warmer unit connector.
4.  Inspect for continuity between the driver-side seat warmer unit connector terminal 6A and 6B.

―  If not as specified, replace the front seat cushion pad. (See FRONT SEAT CUSHION TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
5.  Measure the resistance between the driver-side seat warmer unit connector terminal 6C and 6D, and verify that the condition is as indicated in the table.

•  If the thermistor characteristic is not as shown in the graph, replace the front seat cushion pad. (See FRONT SEAT CUSHION TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
Seat back side
1.  Switch the ignition to off.
2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
3.  Disconnect the driver-side seat warmer unit connector.
4.  Inspect for continuity between the driver-side seat warmer unit connector (short cord) terminal A and B.

Passenger-side

Seat cushion side
1.  Switch the ignition to off.
2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
3.  Disconnect the passenger-side seat warmer unit connector.
4.  Inspect for continuity between the passenger-side seat warmer unit connector terminal E and N.

―  If not as specified, replace the front seat cushion pad. (See FRONT SEAT CUSHION TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
5.  Measure the resistance between the passenger-side seat warmer unit connector terminal D and B, and verify that the condition is as indicated in the table.

1.  Switch the ignition to off.

4.  Inspect for continuity between the passenger-side seat warmer unit connector (short cord) terminal A and B.
