• Gears can be selected freely by moving the selector lever back and forward.

• When shifting the selector lever from the D to M range while driving, the gear being used while driving is maintained. For driving in D range 5GR, however, when shifting the selector lever from the D to M range with the accelerator pedal released, the gear shifts to 4GR.

• If the ATF temperature is 130 °C {266 °F} or more while in manual mode, the gear position indicator light turns off and automatic shift control is selected to reduce the ATX load. When the ATF temperature is 120 °C {248 °F} or less for a specified time, the gear position indicator light re-illuminates and driving in manual mode is enabled.

• In every gear speed, engine brake force can be obtained corresponding to the gear ratio. During coasting operation, the gear is shifted down automatically when the vehicle speed is below the specification.

• The gear shifting operation may cancel depending on the driver's shifting operation. Is this case, the gear position indicator light illuminates to alert the driver. For example, when a shift-up operation is performed three times consecutively, or when shift-up and shift-down operations are performed in combination consecutively, the gear shifting operation cancels and the gear position indicator light flashes.

• If the engine reaches a high engine speed, the following controls are performed to protect the engine:

1. To alert the driver that the engine speed has reached a high engine speed, the opening and closing of the throttle valve are repeated at regular intervals.

2. The engine speed stabilizes at a lower speed than the excessive speed zone.

3. If the engine speed reaches a high engine speed even if the above procedures are performed, a forced shift-up is performed to lower the engine speed.
