DTC P0500:00

VSS circuit malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION
• The PCM monitors the vehicle speed signal from the ABS, ABS/TCS HU/CM. If the vehicle speed signal is not correct, the PCM determines that the vehicle speed signal from ABS, ABS/TCS HU/CM has malfunction.
Monitoring condition
• Battery voltage: more than 10 V
Diagnostic support note
• The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in first drive cycle.
• PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA (mode2) and snapshot data are available.
• The DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• PCM configuration error
• DSC HU/CM DTC is stored
• ABS wheel-speed sensor connector or terminals malfunction
• ABS wheel-speed sensor malfunction
• PCM connector or terminals malfunction
• PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED (MODE2)
• Is DTC P0500:00 on FREEZE FRAME DATA (mode2)?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to troubleshooting procedures for DTC in FREEZE FRAME DATA (mode2).
2
VERIFY RELATED SERVICE INFORMATION
• Verify related Service Information availability.
• Is any related Service Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to available Service Information.
• If vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY STORED DTC IN OR DSC HU/CM
• Switch the ignition ON (Engine off).
• Verify stored DTCs in ABS HU/CM or DSC HU/CM using the M-MDS. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS.)
• Are any DTCs present ?
Yes
Go to the appropriate DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
4
VERIFY CURRENT INPUT SIGNAL STATUS
• Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
• Start the engine.
• Perform the PID/DATA Monitor and Record Procedure and access the VSS PID. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZR-CD 2.2].)
― Vehicle speed 20 km/h {12.4 mph}: 20km/h {12.4 mph}
― Vehicle speed 40 km/h {24.8 mph}: 40km/h {24.8 mph}
• Are the PID readings within the specification?
Yes
Go to the symptom troubleshooting “INTERMITTENT CONCERN TROUBLESHOOTING”.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR AND TERMINALS
• Switch the ignition off.
• Disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor connector.
• Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged, pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR
• Inspect the ABS wheel-speed sensor. (See FRONT ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR INSPECTION.) (See REAR ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR INSPECTION [4WD].)
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the ABS wheel-speed sensor, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR AND TERMINALS
• Disconnect the PCM connector.
• Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged, pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0500:00 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
• Drive the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA (mode2) condition.
• Is the PENDING CODE same as the DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the “AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE”. (See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE [MZR-CD 2.2].)
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
