Visual Inspection

1.Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.Remove the plug hole plate.(See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5].)

3.Disconnect the CMP sensor connector.

4.Remove the CMP sensor. (See CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5].)

5.Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CMP sensor.

• Remove any metal shavings that are adhering.

Voltage Inspection

1.Idle the engine.

2.Measure the CMP sensor output wave pattern using an oscilloscope. (See PCM INSPECTION [L5])

• If not within the specification, replace the CMP sensor. (See CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5].)
