POWER BRAKE UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.]

Caution
• Once the brake switch clearance has automatically been adjusted, it cannot be adjusted again. Therefore, replace the switch with a new one when replacing the power brake unit or performing any procedure that changes the pedal stroke.

1.Remove the vacuum chamber. (MZR-CD 2.2) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

2.Remove the master cylinder component. (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D. (MTX)].) (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D. (ATX)].)

3.Remove the windshield wiper arm and blade. (See WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.Remove the cowl grille. (See COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.Remove the windshield wiper motor. (See WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6.Remove the cowl panel. (See COWL PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

7.For L3 Turbo or L5 vehicles, perform the following procedure:

(1)Remove the insulator (upper side). (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5].)
(2)Disconnect the vacuum hose (power brake unit side).

(3)Remove the nuts as shown in the figure, and move the vacuum hose and vacuum pipe.
(4)Remove the insulator (lower side). (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5].)

8.For L5 or MZR-CD 2.2 vehicles, perform the following procedure:

(1)Disconnect the vacuum hose (power brake unit side). (MZR-CD 2.2)
(2)Disconnect the wiring harness connector.

(3)Remove the wiring harness connector from the bracket.
(4)Remove the cooler hose (LO) installation nut.

(5)Remove the reserve hose from the reserve hose clip. (MZR-CD 2.2)
(6)Move the cooler hose (LO) under the vehicle.

9.Remove the dashboard under cover. (See DASHBOARD UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

10.Remove in the order indicated in the table.

11.Remove the brake switch. (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].)

12.Install in the reverse order of removal.

13.After installation, add brake fluid, bleed the air, and inspect for fluid leakage. (See AIR BLEEDING.)

14.Inspect the brake pedal. (See BRAKE PEDAL INSPECTION [R.H.D.].)
