DESCRIPTION	• Gear position indicator light in instrument cluster illuminates but vehicle does not downshift when the selector lever is pushed to “−” side.
POSSIBLE CAUSE	• Down switch (built-in selector lever component) or related wiring harness malfunction Note • Before following the troubleshooting steps, make sure that the Automatic Transaxle On-board Diagnostic and Automatic Transaxle Basic Inspection are conducted. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].) (See BASIC INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].)

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	Inspect the DWN SW PID value using the M-MDS when the selector lever is pushed to “−” side. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].) Is the PID value normal?	Yes	• Inspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION.) • Replace the instrument cluster if necessary. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
1		No	Inspect the down switch. (See SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT INSPECTION.) If the down switch has a malfunction: • Replace the down switch. (See SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) If the down switch is normal: • Inspect for continuity between selector lever component terminal B (wiring harness-side) and TCM terminal 2F (wiring harness-side). • Repair or replace the any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.
2	• Verify the test results. ― If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. ― If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis. • If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed. • If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM. (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FS5A-EL].)
