Caution
• Secure the steering wheel using tape or a cable to prevent the steering shaft from rotating after disconnecting the steering shaft. If the steering wheel rotates after the steering shaft and the steering gear and linkage are disconnected, the internal parts of the clock spring could be damaged.

1.Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.Remove the windshield wiper arm and blade. (See WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.Remove the cowl grille. (See COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(6)Remove the bracket from transaxle.
(7)Disconnect the oil hose from transaxle.
(8)Remove the filler tube from transaxle.
(9)Remove the starter. (See STARTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5].)

7.Disconnect and/or remove the following parts related to the suspension and axle.

(1)Remove the front tires. (See GENERAL PROCEDURES (FRONT AND REAR AXLES).)
(2)Disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensors from steering knuckles. (See FRONT ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(3)Disconnect the brake hose bracket from shock absorbers. (See BRAKE HOSE (FRONT) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(4)Disconnect the tie-rod end from steering knuckles. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D. (L5)].)(See FRONT CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D. (L3 Turbo, L5)].)
(5)Disconnect the front lower arm from steering knuckles. (See FRONT LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(6)Disconnect the stabilizer control links from shock absorbers. (See FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER AND COIL SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

8.Disconnect and/or remove the following parts for the underbody.

(1)Remove the steering shaft cover. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(2)Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering gear and linkage. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(3)Remove the dust cover. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(4)Remove the transverse member. (See TRANSVERSE MEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(5)Remove the front crossmember. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D. (L5)].)(See FRONT CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D. (L3 Turbo, L5)].)

Caution
• Refer to the SST instruction manual for the basic handing procedure.

9.Install the SST using the following procedure.

acxuuw00004324
(1)Install the right rear shaft of the SST to the bolt of the right shock absorber as shown in the figure.
acxuuw00004325
(2)Install the left rear shaft of the SST to the bolt of the left shock absorber. (Identical position to the right side)
(3)Temporarily tighten the air clear bracket installation bolt, and install the left/right front shaft of the SST with front foot No.2 to the bolt as shown in the figure.
acxuuw00004326
(4)Adjust the positions of the SST side bars so that they are the same height (left and right) and horizontal.
(5)Make sure each joint is securely tightened.
(6)Apply tension to the chain to secure the engine.

10.Support the engine using the SST.

Warning
• Improperly jacking a transaxle is dangerous. It can slip off the jack and may cause serious injury.
Caution
• To prevent the torque converter and transaxle from separating, remove the transaxle without tilting it toward the torque converter.

11.Remove in the order shown in the figure.

No.1 Engine Mount and No.4 Engine Mount Installation Note

1.Temporarily tighten the No.1 engine mount installation bolts.

acxuuw00004287

2.Temporarily tighten the No.4 engine mount bracket in the order shown in the figure.

acxuuw00004314

3.Tighten the No.4 engine mount bracket in the order shown in the figure.

acxuuw00004315
Tightening torque
75—104 N·m {7.7—10 kgf·m, 56—76 ft·lbf}

4.Tighten the No.1 engine mount installation bolts in the order of A→B→C→D.

acxuuw00004287
Tightening torque
Bolt A: 87—95 N·m {8.9—9.6 kgf·m, 65—70 ft·lbf}
Bolt B, C: 108—134 N·m {12—13 kgf·m, 80—98 ft·lbf}
Bolt D: 105—132 N·m {11—13 kgf·m, 78—97 ft·lbf}
Note
• Bolt A can be tightened on the nut side. When tightening on the nut side, tighten it according to the following tightening torque.
• The tightening torque when tightening from the bolt side is different than when doing it from the nut side because the amount of force required to tighten the bolt differs. These differences in force applied to the bolt are because of the differences in the surface treatment of the nut and bolt.
acxuuw00004386
Tightening torque
Nut A: 60—72 N·m {6.2—7.3 kgf·m, 45—53 ft·lbf}
