OIL SEAL (DIFFERENTIAL) REPLACEMENT [AW6A-EL, AW6AX-EL]

1.Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.Drain the ATF. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [AW6A-EL, AW6AX-EL].)

Caution
• The oil seal is easily damaged by the sharp edges of the drive shaft splines. Do not let the splines contact the oil seal.

3.Remove the drive shaft. (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].)

4.Remove the joint shaft. (2WD) (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [2WD].)

5.Remove the transfer and joint shaft. (4WD) (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [4WD].) (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6AX-EL].)

Caution
• Do not damage the transaxle case.
• Do not damage the differential case.

6.Remove the oil seal lip using a razor.

7.Remove and discard the oil seal using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.

Caution
• Do not damage the oil seal.

8.Using the SST and a hammer, tap a new oil seal so that the specified oil seal position is obtained.

Transaxle case side

Converter housing side (2WD)

9.Install the joint shaft. (2WD) (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [2WD].)

10.Install the transfer and joint shaft. (4WD) (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [4WD].) (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AW6AX-EL].)

11.Install the drive shaft. (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 Turbo].)

12.Add ATF to the specified level. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [AW6A-EL, AW6AX-EL].)

13.Connect the negative cable.

14.Perform the mechanical system test. (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST [AW6A-EL, AW6AX-EL].)
