DESCRIPTION
|
• Magnetic clutch does not operate.
|
|
POSSIBLE CAUSE
|
• Improper refrigerant charging amount
• Open A/C magnetic clutch
• Open circuit between the A/C relay and A/C magnetic clutch
• Poor ground of A/C magnetic clutch
• Refrigerant pressure sensor malfunction (L5, L3 Turbo)
• Refrigerant pressure switch malfunction (MZR-CD 2.2)
• Evaporator temperature sensor malfunction
• A/C relay is stuck open.
• Seized A/C compressor
• Climate control unit malfunction (A/C switch or fan switch malfunction, or climate control unit does not determine A/C request or transmit the A/C request signal.)
• Instrument cluster malfunction (instrument cluster does not receive A/C request signal from climate control unit or transmit it to PCM.)
• Communication error between climate control unit and instrument cluster
• Communication error between instrument cluster and PCM

• Start engine.
• Turn A/C switch and airflow volume control dial on.
• Does A/C compressor operate?

|
INSPECT FOR DTC IN PCM, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, AND CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT
• Inspect for DTCs related to the PCM, instrument cluster and EATC on-board diagnostic system.
• Are any DTCs displayed?

Yes

Go to appropriate inspection procedure.
|

No
|
Go to the next step.
|

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN A/C MAGNETIC CLUTCH CONTROL OR A/C REQUEST SIGNAL
• Access PCM PID ACCS using the M-MDS.
• Start the engine and idle it.
• Turn the PID ACCS to ON from OFF using the M-MDS simulation function.
• Is the A/C magnetic clutch engaged?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|

No
|
Go to Step 16.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL OR ELSEWHERE
• Start the engine and idle it.
• Measure the voltage at climate control unit terminal 1F.
• Is the voltage normal?

Yes
|
Go to Step 8.
|

No
|
Go to the next step.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition to on (Engine off).
• Measure the voltage at climate control unit terminal 1C.
• Is the voltage normal?
Specification:
Below 1.0 V

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the climate control unit.
Then go to Step 20.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR RELATED WIRING HARNESS
• Inspect for open or short circuit between following climate control unit terminal (24-pin) and evaporator temperature sensor terminal.
• Is there any open or short circuit detected?

Yes

Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
Then go to Step 20.

No
|
Replace the evaporator temperature sensor
Then go to Step 20.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SIGNAL OR ELSEWHERE
• Inspect the refrigerant pressure sensor (L5, L3 Turbo) or switch (MZR-CD 2.2). (See
REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SENSOR INSPECTION [FULL-AUTO AIR CONDITIONER].) (See
REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FULL-AUTO AIR CONDITIONER].)
• Is the refrigerant pressure sensor normal?

Yes

Go to Step 14.

No

INSPECT REFRIGERANT PRESSURE
• Inspect the refrigerant pressure. (See
REFRIGERANT PRESSURE CHECK.)
• Is the refrigerant pressure normal?

Yes

Go to the next step. (L5, L3 Turbo)
Go to the step 12. (MZR-CD 2.2)

No

Repair or replace malfunctioning part according to inspection result.
Then go to Step 20.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN SENSOR POWER SUPPLY OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition to on (Engine off).
• Measure the voltage at climate control unit terminal 1J.
• Is the voltage normal? (See
CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT INSPECTION [FULL-AUTO AIR CONDITIONER].)

Replace the climate control unit.

• Inspect for open or short circuit between following climate control unit terminal (24-pin) and refrigerant pressure sensor terminal.
• Is there any open or short circuit detected?

Yes

Repair or replace for open or short circuit then go to Step 20.
|

No
|
Replace the refrigerant sensor then go to Step 20.
|

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SWITCH, REFRIGERANT AMOUNT OR ELSEWHERE
• Does cool air blow out when terminals B and D of refrigerant pressure switch connector are shorted?

Yes

Then go to Step 14.

No
|
Go to the next step.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS (LACK OR CONTINUITY OR OPEN CIRCUIT BETWEEN REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SWITCH AND GROUND) OR ELSEWHERE
• Does cool air blow out when refrigerant pressure switch connector D and ground are shorted?

Yes
|
Repair wiring harness for lack of continuity or open between refrigerant pressure switch and ground point. (loose, poor contact)
Then go to Step 20.

No
|
Replace the refrigerant pressure switch then go to Step 20.
|

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR ELSEWHERE
• Verify the multi information display indication of A/C system while turning on and off air conditioner by switching the control panel.
• Does the multi information display indicate properly?

Yes
|
Replace the instrument cluster.
(Instrument cluster does not receive the A/C request signal from climate control unit or transmit it to PCM.)
Then go to Step 20.

No
|
Go to the next step.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT OR ELSEWHERE
• Inspect the multi information display. (See
MULTI INFORMATION DISPLAY INPUT/OUTPUT CHECK MODE.)
• Is the multi information display normal?

Yes
|
Replace the climate control unit.
(A/C switch malfunction or climate control unit can not determine A/C request or transmit to instrument cluster)
Then go to Step 20.

No
|
Repair or replace malfunctioning part according to inspection result.
Then go to Step 20.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN A/C RELAY OR A/C MAGNETIC CLUTCH
• Start the engine and idle it.
• Verify that the A/C relay operation sound is heard while PCM PID ACCS to ON from OFF using the M-MDS simulation function.
• Is the A/C operation sound heard?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|

No
|
Go to Step 18.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN A/C MAGNETIC CLUTCH OR RELATED WIRING HARNESS
• Inspect the A/C compressor magnet clutch. (See
MAGNETIC CLUTCH INSPECTION [FULL-AUTO AIR CONDITIONER].)
• Is the magnet clutch normal?

Yes
|
Inspect and repair for open or short circuit between battery positive terminal and A/C compressor terminal A.
|

No
|
Replace the magnet clutch.
Then go to Step 18.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN A/C RELAY OR RELATED WIRING HARNESS
• Inspect the A/C relay. (See
RELAY INSPECTION [L3 Turbo].) (See

RELAY INSPECTION [L5].)
• Is the A/C relay normal?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.

No
|
Replace the A/C relay.
Then go to Step 20.

INSPECT TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN A/C RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT OR POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
• Remove the A/C relay.
• Start the engine and idle it.
• Measure the A/C relay terminal (fuse box side connector) while PCM PID ACCS to ON from OFF using the M-MDS simulation function.
• Is the voltage below
1.0 V?

Yes
|
Inspect and repair for open circuit between ignition switch terminal B and A/C relay terminal A.
Then go to the next step.

No
|
Inspect and repair for open or short to power supply circuit between PCM terminal 1I and A/C relay terminal E.
Then go to the next step.

CONFIRM THAT MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS DO NOT RECUR AFTER REPAIR
• Does cool air blow out? (Are the results of refrigerant system performance test okay?)

Yes
|
Troubleshooting completed. Explain repairs to customer.

No
|
Recheck malfunction symptoms, then repeat from Step 1 if malfunction recurs.
