• The number of auto leveling sensors differs depending on the vehicle's period of manufacture. Rear only: Vehicle without front auto leveling sensor; front and rear: Vehicle with front auto leveling sensor.
• For vehicles without the front auto leveling sensor, troubleshooting can be performed using the on-board diagnostic system. DTCs are output during the following malfunctions.

Auto leveling does not adjust optical axis of the headlights for vehicle posture
DESCRIPTION
• Auto leveling does not adjust optical axis of the headlights for cargo and passenger weight conditions when the vehicle speed above 30 km/h {19 mph}.
• Left or right side auto leveling does not operate.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• Headlight leveling actuator the malfunction
• Auto leveling control module the malfunction
• Auto leveling sensor the malfunction (Detects DTC 3)
• Detects auto leveling control module or auto leveling sensor initial setting malfunction (DTC 6)
• Improper installation of auto leveling sensor
• Vehicle speed signal is not input to auto leveling control module
― Vehicle speed signal malfunction input to instrument cluster
― Instrument cluster malfunction
― Open or short circuit in wiring harness between auto leveling control module and instrument cluster

• Perform the auto leveling system initial setting. (See AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM INITIALIZATION.)

• Was the malfunction corrected?
Yes
Diagnosis completed (cause is auto leveling system initial setting not performed).
No
Go to the next step.

CONFIRM HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM DTC
• Retrieve the headlight auto leveling system DTCs. (See DTC INSPECTION [HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM].)
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSTALLATION
• Inspect auto leveling sensor installation (bend or damaged of bracket, or dislocated link).
• Are auto leveling sensor installed properly?
Yes
Go to the next +step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part, or install properly.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN AUTO LEVELING SENSOR OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Turn on the head light in low position.
• Jump the DLC-2 terminal B to GND using a jumper wire.
• Verify that the optical axis movement.
• Does the optical axis move up and down both side?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 7.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE AND HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR
• Inspect for open or short circuit in wiring harness at auto leveling function does not operate.
Right-side:
― Auto leveling control module terminal J—front combination light (RH) terminal D
― Auto leveling control module terminal I—front combination light (RH) terminal E
― Auto leveling control module terminal L—front combination light (RH) terminal F
Left-side:
― Auto leveling control module terminal J—front combination light (LH) terminal D
― Auto leveling control module terminal K—front combination light (LH) terminal E
― Auto leveling control module terminal L—front combination light (LH) terminal F
• Is open or short circuit detected?
Yes
Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR OR ELSEWHERE
• Replace the suspected side front combination light. (See FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
• Does the auto leveling adjust optical axis of the headlight for vehicle posture?
Yes
Troubleshooting completed.
(The malfunction is in headlight leveling actuator.)
No
Replace the auto leveling control module.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE AND HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR
• Inspect for open or short circuit in wiring harness.
Right-side:
― Auto leveling control module terminal J—front combination light (RH) terminal D
― Auto leveling control module terminal L—front combination light (RH) terminal F
Left-side:
― Auto leveling control module terminal J—front combination light (LH) terminal D
― Auto leveling control module terminal L—front combination light (LH) terminal F
• Is open or short circuit detected?
Yes
Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION IS NO VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL
• Verify the following PCM PID "VSS" using the M-MDS. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [L3 Turbo].) (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [L5].) (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZR-CD 2.2].)
• Does the VSS monitored value correspond to the speedometer indication while the vehicle is driven?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Perform the instrument cluster symptom troubleshooting “No.7 Speedometer indication is defective” procedure.

INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL LINE OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition to the off position.
• Disconnect the instrument cluster and auto leveling control module connectors.
• Verify the continuity between the following:
― Auto leveling control module terminal R—GND (Normal condition: No continuity)
― Auto leveling control module terminal R—instrument cluster terminal 2O (Normal condition: Continuity)
• Is the continuity normal?
Yes
Replace the auto leveling control module.
No
Repair or replace for an open or short circuit.

INSPECT FRONT AND REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSTALLATION
• Inspect front and rear auto leveling sensor installation (bend or damaged of bracket, or dislocated link).
• Are front and rear auto leveling sensor installed properly?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part, or install properly.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FRONT AUTO LEVELING SENSOR
• Inspect the front auto leveling sensor. (See FRONT AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSPECTION.)
• Is the front auto leveling sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the front auto leveling sensor.

INSPECT REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR
• Inspect the rear auto leveling sensor. (See REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSPECTION.)
• Is the rear auto leveling sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the rear auto leveling sensor.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL LINE OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the headlight auto leveling control module connector.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Measure the voltage between headlight auto leveling control module harness side connector terminal R and GND.
• Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Repair or replace for short to power supply.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL LINE OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect headlight auto leveling control module and instrument cluster connectors.
• Verify that the continuity for following:
― Headlight auto leveling control module terminal R-GND ( normal condition: not continuity)
― Headlight auto leveling control module terminal R-instrument cluster terminal 2O ( normal condition: continuity)
• Are there continuity.
Yes
Replace the headlight auto leveling control module.
No
Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
