Auto leveling warning light illuminates when the ignition is switched to ON
DESCRIPTION
The auto leveling warning light remains illuminated 3 seconds or more after the ignition is turned to ON.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• Headlight auto leveling function related electrical part the malfunction
― Auto leveling sensor related part the malfunction (Detects DTC 3)
• Auto leveling control module power supply voltage excessive low
• Auto leveling sensor signal voltage excessive high or low
• Auto leveling sensor the malfunction
― Auto leveling control module the malfunction
• Auto leveling control module power supply circuit malfunction
• Auto leveling control module GND circuit malfunction
• Auto leveling warning light control circuit the malfunction
― Open or short circuit in wiring harness between auto leveling control module and instrument cluster
― Instrument cluster the malfunction

• Retrieve the headlight auto leveling system DTCs. (See DTC INSPECTION [HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM].)
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Measure the voltage between auto leveling control module terminal H and GND.
• Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace for open circuit between the ignition switch and auto leveling control module terminal H.

INSPECT AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE GND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the auto leveling control module connector.
• Verify that continuity between auto leveling control module terminal F and GND.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Connector the auto leveling control module connector, then go to Step 5.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT GND POINT
• Verify that the GND point for auto leveling control module.
• Is there loose or poor connection at GND point?
Yes
Retighten the GND point.
No
Repair or replace for open circuit between auto leveling control module terminal F and GND.

INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn on and off all the indicator lights and warning lights in the instrument cluster using the M-MDS simulation function WL+IL.
• Does the auto leveling warning light turn on and off according to simulation function?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the instrument cluster.

AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT SIGNAL CIRCUIT INSPECTION
• Disconnect the auto leveling control module and instrument cluster connectors.
• Verify the continuity between the following connector terminals on the vehicle wiring harness side:
― Auto leveling control module terminal V and body ground (no continuity)
― Auto leveling control module terminal V and instrument cluster terminal 2K (continuity)
• Is the continuity normal?
Yes
Replace the auto leveling control module.
No
Repair or replace for open or short circuit.

Vehicle with front auto leveling sensor

Headlight auto leveling warning light illuminates when the ignition switch turned to ON position
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• Headlight auto leveling function related electrical part the malfunction

― Headlight auto leveling control module power supply voltage is excessive high
• Vehicle speed signal is above 180 km/h {112MPH.EN_UK} or more
― Instrument cluster the malfunction
― Short to power supply circuit between instrument cluster terminal 2O and headlight auto leveling control module terminal R
• Headlight auto leveling warning light control circuit the malfunction
― Instrument cluster the malfunction
― Short to GND between instrument cluster terminal 2K and headlight auto leveling control module terminal V

• Is there any bend, damage or dislocated link at the bracket?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE
• Turn the ignition switch to ON position.
• Measure the voltage at headlight auto leveling control module terminal H.
• Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace for open circuit between the ignition switch and headlight auto leveling control module terminal H.

INSPECT HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE GND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the headlight auto leveling control module connector.
• Verify that continuity at headlight auto leveling control module terminal F.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Connector the headlight auto leveling control module connector, then go to Step 5.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT GND POINT
• Verify that the GND point for headlight auto leveling control module.
• Is there loose or poor connection at GND point?
Yes
Retighten the GND point.
No
Repair or replace for open circuit at headlight auto leveling control module terminal F.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN AUTO LEVELING SENSOR OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Turn the headlight to ON.
• Measure the voltage at headlight auto leveling control module terminal G.
• Is the voltage 0.25—4.75 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 9.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Turn the headlight to ON.
• Measure the voltage between headlight auto leveling control module terminal E.
• Is the voltage 0.25—4.75 V?
Yes
Go to Step 11.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT THE REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT
• Inspect the wiring harness between headlight auto leveling control module terminal E and rear auto leveling sensor terminal B.
• Is there open or short circuit detected?
Yes
Repair or replace for open short circuit.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR
• Inspect the rear auto leveling sensor. (See REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSPECTION.)
• Is the rear auto leveling sensor normal?
Yes
Repair or replace for open circuit at following.
• Between headlight auto leveling control module terminal D and rear auto leveling sensor terminal A.
• Between headlight auto leveling control module terminal M and rear auto leveling sensor terminal C.
No
Replace the rear leveling sensor.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN AUTO LEVELING SENSOR POWER OR GND CIRCUIT OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Turn the headlight to ON.
• Measure the voltage at headlight auto leveling control module terminal E.
• Is the voltage 0.25—4.75 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace for open circuit at following.
• Between headlight auto leveling control module terminal D and front auto leveling sensor terminal A.
• Between headlight auto leveling control module terminal D and rear auto leveling sensor terminal A.
• Between headlight auto leveling control module terminal M and front auto leveling sensor terminal C.
• Between headlight auto leveling control module terminal M and rear auto leveling sensor terminal C.

INSPECT FRONT AUTO LEVELING SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT
• Inspect the wiring harness between headlight auto leveling control module terminal G and front auto leveling sensor terminal B.
• Is there open or short circuit detected?
Yes
Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
No
Inspect the front auto leveling sensor.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN HEADLIGHT AUTO LEVELING WARNING LIGHT CONTROL CIRCUIT OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the headlight auto leveling control module and instrument cluster connectors.
• Verify that continuity between headlight auto leveling control module terminal V and GND.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace for short to GND circuit.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Connect the instrument cluster connector (with headlight auto leveling control module connector disconnected).
• Short to GND at headlight auto leveling control module terminal E using the jumper wire.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Dose the headlight auto leveling warning light illuminate?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the instrument cluster.

INSPECT IF THE MALFUNCTION IS IN VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT OR ELSEWHERE
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the headlight auto leveling control module connector.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Measure the voltage at headlight auto leveling control module terminal R.
• Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Repair or replace for short to power supply.
No
Replace the headlight auto leveling control module.
