NO.2 SYSTEM DOES NOT CONTROL AUDIO BY STEERING SWITCH [CAR-NAVIGATION SYSTEM]

id0903e8912900

2

System does not control audio by steering switch.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
• Poor connection of car-navigation unit connector, terminal damage
• Car-navigation unit malfunction
• Steering switch malfunction.
• Open or short circuit in wiring harness between steering switch and car-navigation unit.

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
• Turn the Ignition switch to ACC position.
• Start audio system by pressing the audio system button (AM/FM, DISC), after the map is displayed on the screen.
• Control the audio using the steering switch.
• Is the audio system controlled normally?
Yes
The system is normal.
No
Go to the next step.
2
• Inspect the connection of the car-navigation unit connector (24-pin).
• Is the car-navigation unit connector connected securely?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Securely connect the car-navigation unit connector.
3
• Disconnect the car-navigation unit connector (24-pin).
• Inspect both car-navigation unit connector and wiring harness-side connector terminals 1N and 1P for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
• Are all the pins normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If the car-navigation unit connector is wrong:
• Replace the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong:
• Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.
4
• Disconnect the car-navigation unit connector (24-pin).
• Measure the resistance between terminal 1N and 1P at car-navigation unit harness-side connector (24-pin) while the steering switch (Volume-, Volume+, Seek-, Seek+, Mode, Hang-up, Pick-up, Talk) is pressed.
• Is the resistance within the specified?
Specification
50 ohms — 5 kilo-ohms (Resistance is changing according to switch pressed position.)
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect and repair the following:
• Replace the steering switch. (See STEERING SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
• Wiring harness between car-navigation unit and steering switch for open or short circuit).
5
• Verify that the continuity between terminal 1N and 1P at car-navigation unit harness-side connector (24-pin) while the Talk switch is pressed.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Troubleshooting completed. (The system is normal.)
No
Inspect and repair the following:
• Replace the steering switch. (See STEERING SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
• Wiring harness between car-navigation unit and steering switch for open or short circuit).
