Engine coolant temperature is high

DETECTION CONDITION
•  Engine coolant temperature of 110 °C or more continues for 2.5 s or more.
Diagnostic support note
•  This is a continuous monitor (other).
•  The check engine light does not illuminate.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA/Snapshot data is available.
•  DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION

•  Engine cooling system malfunction
•  Continuous high engine speed condition maintained
•  ECT sensor malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
•  Record the freeze frame data/snap shot data.
Go to the next step.

VERIFY OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch the ignition ON.
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has any DTC other than P111A:00 been stored?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT EFFECT OF VEHICLE USE CONDITION FOR CAUSE OF MALFUNCTION
•  Verify how the customer drives the vehicle by asking the customer the following:
―  High engine speed maintained continuously for long period of time
•  Is the way the engine is being used producing excess heat?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 5.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY OVERHEATING
Warning
•  To prevent an accident, work with another person when the vehicle is being driven (one person drives vehicle, other person operates M-MDS).
•  Observe legal speed limits when driving the vehicle and perform the procedure in a location where safety can be assured.
•  Display PID ECT using the M-MDS.
•  Is the data monitor item ETC value 110 °C or more while the vehicle is driven on a flat road?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the vehicle is normal.
Go to Step 6.
No
A malfunction due to overheating of the coolant system can be considered.
•  Perform malfunction diagnosis according to [NO.22 COOLING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION (OVERHEAT)].

INSPECT ECT SENSOR
•  Is the ECT sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the ECT sensor, then go to the next step.
6
VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Reconnect all the disconnected connectors.
•  Refer to the [MEMORY CLEARING PROCEDURE] and clear the DTC.
•  Start the engine and warm it up.
•  Drive the vehicle.
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has DTC P111A:00 been recorded?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY OTHER DTCs
•  Has any other DTC or pending code been stored?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
