POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION INDICATION

Purpose

• The power steering malfunction indication warns the driver that there is a malfunction with the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Function

• The instrument cluster turns on or flashes the power steering malfunction indication based on the system malfunction indication request signal sent from the EPS CM via CAN communication.

Note

• If there is an error in the internal circuit of the resolver sensor, the power steering malfunction indication flashes to alert the driver that the steering assist power has weakened. (See ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) CONTROL MODULE.)

Construction

• The power steering malfunction indication is displayed in the multi-information display.

Operation

EPS system malfunction detection

1. The instrument cluster receives (1) the system malfunction indication request signal from the EPS CM.

2. The instrument cluster displays (2) the electric power steering and system condition in the multi-information display based on the system malfunction indication request signal.

Resolver sensor open circuit malfunction (resolver sensor backup control)

1. The instrument cluster receives (1) the system conditions display request signal from the EPS CM via CAN communication.

2. The instrument cluster displays (2) the electric power steering and system condition in the multi-information display based on the system condition display request signal.

3. The instrument cluster turns the transistor on (2) intermittently based on the system condition display request signal.
