REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER/HEATED OUTER MIRROR
id091200015500
Outline
• The rear window defogger removes fogging from the rear window glass surface.
• The heated outer mirrors remove fogging from the surface of outer mirror glass. (With heated outer mirrors)
Functions
• Fogging on the rear window glass/outer mirror is removed by heating the rear window glass using the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror filaments to vaporize moisture on the window.
Personalization feature
-
• The operation time setting (initial setting
15 min) for the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror can be changed. For details on the personalization features, refer to the [GLASS/WINDOW/MIRROR PERSONALIZATION]. (See
GLASS/WINDOWS/MIRRORS PERSONALIZATION.)

System wiring diagram
• The rear window defogger filaments are located on the cabin side of the rear window glass.
• The heated outer mirror filaments are built into the outer mirror glass.
Operation
Rear window defogger operation time is set to "15 minutes"
1. When the rear window defogger switch is turned on with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on), the climate control unit sends a rear window defogger operation request signal (1) to the instrument cluster via CAN communication.
2. The instrument cluster sends the rear window defogger operation signal (2) to the FBCM.
3. When the FBCM receives the rear window defogger operation signal, it turns the rear window defogger relay on (3).
4. The rear window defogger timer inside the FBCM operates at the same time the rear window defogger relay turns on. In addition, voltage is supplied (4) to the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror filaments and the filaments are heated to warm the rear windowglass/outer mirror glass.
-
Note
-
• When approx. 15 min have elapsed after the rear window defogger timer started operation, the FBCM turns the rear window defogger relay off and stops the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror/operation.
Rear window defogger operation time is set to "Continuous"
In addition, voltage is supplied (4) to the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror and the filaments are heated to warm the rear window glass/outer mirror glass.
5. When the front body control module (FBCM) receives an ambient temperature signal of 0 degrees C or less from the PCM after approx. 15 min have elapsed since it received the rear window defogger operation request signal, it continues turning the rear window defogger relay on (5). (Ambient temperature of 0 degrees C or less detected)
6. When the front body control module (FBCM) receives an ambient temperature signal of
1 degree C or more after
approx. 15 min have elapsed since it received the rear window defogger operation request signal, it turns the rear window defogger relay off to stop the rear window defogger/heated outer mirror operation (6). (Ambient temperature of
1 degree C or more detected)
