BRAKE PEDAL INSPECTION

Pedal Height Inspection

1.  Measure the distance from the floor covering to the position (pedal pad lower end and center) shown in the figure of the upper surface of the pedal pad and verify that it is as specified.

Pedal height standard (reference)
119 mm {4.69 in}
•  If not within the standard, replace the brake pedal. (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)


Pedal Play Inspection

1.  Forcefully depress the brake pedal a few times so that there is no vacuum in the power brake unit.

2.  Lightly press the brake pedal using fingers and measure the play.

Pedal play
12 mm {0.47 in} or less
•  If not within the standard, inspect the wear of the clevis pin and replace it if there is any malfunction. (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
•  If there is any malfunction in the clevis pin, a malfunction on the power brake unit side can be considered. Inspect for a malfunction, replace the power brake unit if necessary. (See POWER BRAKE UNIT INSPECTION.)(See POWER BRAKE UNIT VACUUM SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)


Pedal-to-floor Clearance Inspection

1.  Start the engine and depress the brake pedal with a force of 147 N {15.0 kgf, 33.0 lbf}.

2.  Measure the distance from the floor covering to the position (pedal pad lower end and center) shown in the figure of the upper surface of the pedal pad and verify that it is as specified.

Pedal-to-floor clearance standard
56 mm {2.2 in} or more
•  If it is less than the standard, inspect for air in the brake line. (See BRAKE FLUID AIR BLEEDING.)
