Purpose

•  The exhaust gas pressure sensor detects the exhaust gas pressure exhausted from the cylinder mainly as basic information for EGR control.

Function

•  Detects the exhaust gas pressure exhausted from the cylinder and sends an exhaust gas pressure signal to the PCM.

Construction

•  The exhaust gas pressure sensor is located on the EGR cooler.

•  A piezoelectric element has been adopted for the detection part of the exhaust gas pressure sensor.
•  A piezoelectric element is a resistor element which produces voltage by the application of vibration or pressure. Using this characteristic, the piezoelectric element detects exhaust gas pressure as voltage.

Operation

1.  The exhaust gas pressure sensor detects (1) exhaust gas pressure.

2.  The exhaust gas pressure sensor sends (2) the detected exhaust gas pressure to the PCM as an exhaust gas pressure signal.
