SIDE IMPACT BAR

id091100414100

Purpose/Function

•  Side impact bars have been adopted to prevent the doors from intruding into the cabin in a side collision.

Structure/Construction

•  Waveform (double-hat shape cross section) shape has been adopted to the following side impact bars:
Front door
―  Side impact bar lower
Rear door
―  Side impact bar upper
―  Side impact bar lower
•  By adopting the waveforms (double-hat shape cross section) to the front side impact bar lower and rear side impact bar, strength can be assured even with thinner steel plates, achieving both high rigidity and weight reduction.

•  The side impact bars disperse the impact during a side collision.

•  Inward penetration of the front door during a side-impact collision is suppressed by directly connecting the upper and lower side-impact bars to the front door hinge and positioning them such that they overlap the center pillar.
•  Intrusion of a rear door during a side collision is suppressed by positioning the upper and lower side impact bars of the rear door so that they overlap the center pillar and side sill.
