Purpose
• The seat belt warning light warns the driver that a seat belt is not fastened.
Functions
• The instrument cluster flashes/turns on the seat belt warning light based on the following signals:

Driver's side/passenger's side seat belt warning light display function
-
• The driver's side/passenger's side seat belt warning light has a warning for when the vehicle is stopped, while the vehicle is being driven, and subsequent warnings while the vehicle is being driven.
Warning while vehicle is stopped
-
• When all of the following conditions are met, the light turns on.
-
― Ignition is switched ON (engine off or on)
― Driver's side/passenger's side buckle switch on signal (seat belt unfastened) is detected
― Occupancy sensor on signal (occupant in passenger seat) is detected (passenger's side seat belt warning light only)
Warning while vehicle is driven
-
• When all of the following conditions are met, the light flashes/turns on.
-
― Vehicle speed is 20 km/h {12 mph} or more
― Driver's side/passenger's side buckle switch on signal (seat belt unfastened) is detected
― Occupancy sensor on signal (occupant in passenger seat) is detected (passenger's side seat belt warning light only)
• The warning while the vehicle is being driven flashes/turns on in the pattern shown in the figure.
Subsequent warning while vehicle is driven
-
• When all of the following conditions are met, the light flashes/turns on.
-
― Vehicle speed is 20 km/h {12 mph} or more
― Occupancy sensor on signal (occupant in passenger seat) is detected (passenger's side seat belt warning light only)
― After warning while vehicle is being driven operates, buckle switch off signal (seat belt fastened) to on signal (seat belt unfastened) is detected
• The subsequent warning while vehicle is driven flashes/turns on in the pattern shown in the figure.
Second-row seat belt/third-row seat belt warning light display function (Australian specs.)
-
• The second-row seat belt/third-row seat belt warning light illuminates in green to indicate seat belts are fastened, and it illuminates in red to indicate a seat belt is not fastened.
• The second-row seat belt/third-row seat belt warning light has an initial warning and a subsequent warnings.
Initial warning
-
― When the ignition is switched ON (engine off or on), it illuminates for approx. 33 s.
Subsequent warning
-
― After the initial warning operates, if a buckle switch signal change (on to off, or off to on), illuminates for approx. 33 s.
Structure/Construction
• The driver's side seat belt warning light is built into the instrument cluster.
• The passenger's side seat belt warning light and second-row seat belt/third-row seat belt warning light are built into the indicator unit. For details on the passenger's side seat belt warning light, refer to [INDICATOR UNIT]. (See
INDICATOR UNIT.)
Operation
Driver's side seat belt warning light
1. When the instrument cluster receives (1) a vehicle speed signal from the PCM and a driver's buckle switch signal from the SAS control module via CAN communication while the ignition is switched ON (engine off or on), it turns the transistor on (2) intermittently for flashing and continuously for illumination.
2. When the transistor turns on intermittently, the driver’s seat belt warning light flashes (3), when it turns on continuously, the driver’s seat belt warning light turns on (3).
