id0903n2018800

Description
RCTA indicator light flashes under conditions other than flashing conditions
•  The RCTA indicator light flashes under conditions other than the RCTA indicator light flashing conditions (R position), and target vehicle detection).
Possible Causes
•  BSM control module mis-detects another vehicle or mis-estimates the time that another vehicle will reach the detection line
―  Deviation of radar emission direction in BSM control module (emits radar outside of blind spot, or to adjacent lane)
•  Damage, deformity or looseness of vehicle frame (including moderate impacts)
•  Incorrect installation of rear bumper, dirt on radar emitting/receiving area, application of stickers (including transparent types), repairs using putty application
―  Effect of non-genuine, after-market electronic device installation
Note
•  If there is a thick moisture film (such as condensation) on the rear bumper, the BSM control module may not receive echo-back correctly.
•  The BSM control module may not receive echo-back correctly due to the negative effect of a non-genuine bumper or paint, or installation of after-market parts.
•  RCTA indicator light flash circuit malfunction
―  Audio unit (with color LCD display) internal malfunction (RCTA indicator light flash circuit malfunction)
―  BSM control module (LH) internal malfunction (RCTA indicator light flash circuit malfunction)
―  BSM control module (LH) malfunction (mistaken flash request output)

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS RCTA INDICATOR LIGHT
•  Verify the flash of the BSM indicator light.
•  When the RCTA indicator light flashes, does the BSM indicator light also flash?
Yes
Go to the symptom troubleshooting BSM INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHILE NOT UNDER LIGHT-ILLUMINATION CONDITIONS.
No
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RCTA INDICATOR LIGHT FLASH CIRCUIT SYSTEM
•  Turn the following BSM active command items on and off using the M-MDS active command.
―  RCTA_WARN
•  Is the RCTA indicator light illuminated/turned off?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the BSM control module.
3
INSPECT AUDIO UNIT
•  Perform the audio unit DTC inspection.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT BSM CONTROL MODULE
•  Inspect the BSM control module on the side that is malfunctioning.
•  Is the BSM control module normal?
Yes
The possibility that the BSM control module was temporarily unable to receive echo-back correctly can be considered.
If the same symptom recurs repeatedly, replace the BSM control module.
No
Replace the BSM control module.
