Malfunction detection sound activated

DESCRIPTION
Malfunction detection sound activates after ignition is switched ON.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
•  Ultrasonic sensor malfunction
―  Ultrasonic sensor soiled, damaged (scratches, deformation), frozen (iced)
―  Ultrasonic sensor malfunction
•  Wiring harness malfunction
―  Open or short circuit in parking sensor control module terminal 2G and corner sensor (RH) terminal C
―  Open or short circuit in parking sensor control module terminal 2H and corner sensor (LH) terminal C
―  Open or short circuit in parking sensor control module terminal 2E and back sensor (RH) terminal C
―  Open or short circuit in parking sensor control module terminal 2C and back sensor (LH) terminal C
―  Open or short circuit in parking sensor control module terminal 2A and each ultrasonic sensor terminal A
―  Open or short circuit in parking sensor control module terminal 2B and each ultrasonic sensor terminal B
―  Open or short circuit in short code (between each ultrasonic sensor and parking sensor control module)
•  Parking sensor control module malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY CONDITION OF EACH SENSOR
•  Visually inspect the condition of each ultrasonic sensor.
•  Is a sensor soiled, damaged (scratches, deformation), or frozen (iced)?
Yes
If there is any dirt or ice adhesion:
•  Remove any dirt or ice and verify if the malfunction recurs.
•  If the malfunction recurs, go to the next step.
If there is any damage:
•  Replace the sensor.
No
Go to the next step.
2
INSPECT CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION
•  Verify the connector connection conditions of the parking sensor control module, short-cord, and ultrasonic sensor.
•  Are the connection conditions normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
3
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PARKING SENSOR CONTROL MODULE AND ULTRASONIC SENSOR FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
•  Disconnect the connectors of the ultrasonic sensor, short-cord and parking sensor control module.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following wiring harnesses:
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2A—short-cord terminal D—corner sensor (RH) terminal A
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2B—short-cord terminal C—corner sensor (RH) terminal B
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2G—short-cord terminal E—corner sensor (RH) terminal C
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2H—short-cord terminal B—corner sensor (LH) terminal C
―  Short-cord terminal D—corner sensor (LH) terminal A
―  Short-cord terminal C—corner sensor (LH) terminal B
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2E—short-cord terminal F—back sensor (RH) terminal C
―  Short-cord terminal D—back sensor (RH) terminal A
―  Short-cord terminal C—back sensor (RH) terminal B
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2C—short-cord terminal A—back sensor (LH) terminal C
―  Short-cord terminal D—back sensor (LH) terminal A
―  Short-cord terminal C—back sensor (LH) terminal B
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair for an open circuit in the wiring harness.
4
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PARKING SENSOR CONTROL MODULE AND ULTRASONIC SENSOR FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Inspect for continuity between the following wiring harnesses:
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2A and ground
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2B and ground
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2G and ground
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2H and ground
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2E and ground
―  Parking sensor control module terminal 2C and ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness.
No
Go to the next step.
5
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS ULTRASONIC SENSOR OR PARKING SENSOR CONTROL MODULE
•  Reconnect all the disconnected connectors.
•  Refer to the parking sensor control module inspection and verify the generated pulse for each sensor.
•  Can the generated pulse be verified?
Yes
Replace the parking sensor control module.
No
Replace the ultrasonic sensor.
