• When the vehicle speed is approx 20 mph {32 km/h} and a vehicle enters the alert area, the BSM indicator light in the outer mirror glass illuminates. If the turn signal lever is operated to the side the BSM indicator light illuminated, the BSM indicator light starts flashing and the warning alarm in the instrument cluster operates.
• The BSM can be set to operable or inoperable, and there are two operation modes, alert mode and warning mode.
BSM Operation Conditions
• The BSM can operate when the following conditions are met with the ignition switch in the ON position.

― The vehicle speed is approx. 20 mph {32 km/h} or more.

― The shift lever is in any position except the R position. (The BSM is automatically turned off when the shift lever is in the R position.)
BSM Switch-off Procedures
• The BSM can be switched off by pressing the BSM OFF switch with the ignition switch in the ON position. At this time, the BSM indicator light in the instrument cluster illuminates.
• When the BSM OFF switch is pressed again while the BSM is off, the BSM becomes operable and the BSM OFF indicator light in the instrument cluster turns off.
• The BSM-OFF condition is cancelled when the ignition switch is turned off (LOCK or ACC), and the BSM becomes operable automatically when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
Alert Mode
• If a vehicle enters the alert area when passing or being passed, the system alerts the driver that a vehicle is in the alert area as follows:

― If a vehicle enters the alert area on the left, the BSM indicator light in the left outer mirror glass illuminates.
― If a vehicle enters the alert area on the right, the BSM indicator light in the right outer mirror glass illuminates.
Warning Mode
• While in the alert mode, if the turn signal lever is operated to the side the target vehicle is detected, the system warns the driver of the possibility of an accident as follows:

― The BSM indicator light in the outer mirror flashes.
― The warning alarm in the instrument cluster sounds on alarm.
