BRAKE PEDAL

id041100702400

Purpose, function

•  An anti-intrusion brake pedal has been adopted to the brake pedal to provide for a measure of safety in the event of an accident.
•  The anti-intrusion brake pedal suppresses the minimized amount of brake pedal retreat during a frontal collision, softening impact to the lower body of the driver.

Construction

•  For the anti-intrusion brake pedal, the brake pedal structure consists of the following parts.
―  Pedal arm
―  Lever
―  Pin A
―  Pin B
―  Pin C
―  Bracket

Operation

During normal braking

•  When the brake pedal is operated, the pedal arm rotates using pin A as a pivot, and the pedal force is transmitted to the electronically controlled brake unit fork.
•  The pedal force presses the fork and the brake is applied.

During anti-intrusion operation

•  If the dashboard panel moves towards the driver's seat during a frontal collision, the brake pedal also moves with it.
•  As a result, the force in the X direction is applied to the brake pedal lever because the dashboard member interferes with the lever.
•  The force is applied to the lever in the X direction, pin C is detached from the bracket, and the lever rotates using pin B as the pivot.
•  When the lever rotates, it interferes with pin A which is the pivot of the pedal arm.
•  When the lever further rotates, pin A is detached from the bracket (notch) and the pedal arm moves freely.
•  Impact to the lower body of the driver is softened by the pedal arm being able to move freely.
