Oil and Chemical Type

Brake fluid type

Type: Mazda Genuine Brake Fluid or equivalent

Caution
•  Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. Be careful not to spill any on painted surfaces. In addition, if there is any brake fluid on the wiring harness, the wire insulation may corrode causing a malfunction such as a short circuit. If brake fluid gets on a painted surface or wiring harness, wash and flush it off completely with water immediately.
•  Do not empty the brake fluid in the following brake related parts. Otherwise, the electronically controlled brake unit could be damaged.
―  Electronically controlled brake unit
―  Brake fluid reserve tank
―  Rear brake caliper
Note
•  Keep the fluid level in the brake fluid reserve tank at 3/4 full or more during the brake fluid replacement.
•  Replace the brake fluid from the brake caliper that is the nearest to the master cylinder.
•  Bleed the air inside the brake fluid reserve tank when the fluid inside the brake fluid reserve tank is empty. (See ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D.].)(See ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].)

5.  Select the following item from the screen of the M-MDS. (See Brake Fluid Replacement Note.)

(1)  Press [Start] for the vehicle identification.
(2)  Press the [Toolbox] tab.
(3)  Press the [Work Support] icon.
(4)  Press the [BRAKES] icon.
(5)  Press [Run] for Replacing Brake Fluid.

Caution
•  Do not empty the inside of the brake fluid reserve tank when performing brake fluid replacement. Always verify that the brake fluid is not empty while performing the procedure. Otherwise, it would be necessary to perform air bleeding of the brake fluid reserve tank.

6.  Perform brake fluid replacement in the following order.(See Brake Fluid Replacement Note.)

(1)  Front part on driver’s side
(2)  Front part on passenger's side
(3)  Stroke simulator (Perform the following procedure 10 times)
1)  Slowly depress the brake pedal.
2)  Maintain this condition for 3 s or more.
3)  Quickly release the brake pedal.
4)  Maintain this condition for 3 s or more.
(4)  Front part on driver’s side
(5)  Front part on passenger's side
(6)  Rear part on driver's side
(7)  Rear part on passenger's side

7.  Refill the brake fluid reserve tank fluid level to MAX.

8.  After air bleeding, inspect the following:

•  Brake operation
•  Fluid leakage
•  Fluid level

Procedure Not Using M-MDS

1.  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Perform brake fluid replacement in the following order. (See Brake Fluid Replacement Note.)

(1)  Front part on driver’s side
(2)  Front part on passenger's side
(3)  Rear part on driver's side
(4)  Rear part on passenger's side

3.  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

4.  Refill the brake fluid reserve tank fluid level to MAX.

Brake Fluid Replacement Note

1.  Remove the bleeder cap on the brake caliper, and attach a vinyl tube to the bleeder screw.

2.  Place the other end of the vinyl tube in a clear container and fill the container with fluid during brake fluid replacement.

Note
•  Replace the brake fluid from the brake pipe can be implemented quickly by slowly depressing the brake pedal.

3.  Working with two people, one should pump the brake pedal strongly and quickly several times, and then depress and hold the pedal down.
