Purpose, function

• If the vehicle detects an operation by the driver intending to leave the vehicle with the shift position in a position other than P position, the vehicle switches the shift position to P position automatically.

• If the driver does not switch the shift position to P position and a specific operation is detected, the vehicle automatically switches the shift position to P position.

• A neutral hold mode (automatic car wash mode) is equipped to stop the vehicle in a parking unlock condition with the main power switched to a position other than ON, such as when using an automatic car washer.

Operation

• For the transmission/reception destination of each information used for operation determination, refer to SHIFT-BY-WIRE SYSTEM. (See SHIFT-BY-WIRE SYSTEM [A71M] .)

• While the Auto P function is operating, a message is displayed on the multi-information display.

Operation conditions

• When any of the following operation conditions is met with the actual shift position in a position other than P position, the vehicle switches to the P position automatically.

― Main power is switched from ON (READY off or on) to OFF or ACC

― Driver’s door is opened with driver’s seat belt unfastened

Neutral Hold Mode

• With neutral hold mode, the vehicle can be stopped with the shift position in N and the electric parking brake (EPB) released.

• During neutral hold mode, the Auto P function does not operate and the ignition is switched to ACC.

• The neutral hold mode continues for approx. 25 min after the switching operation, and if it is left in that condition, the Auto P function operates.

Neutral hold mode selection procedure

• Neutral hold mode can be selected by performing any of the following procedures.

Procedure 1

1. Press the power switch with the brake pedal depressed to start the EV system.

2. Release the parking brake.

3. Shift the selector lever to the N position.

4. Turn off the AUTOHOLD.

5. Press the electric parking brake switch down continuously for 2 s or more (until warning sound is activated).

6. Release the EPB switch and press the power switch within 5 s after the sound was activated.

Procedure 2

1. Press the power switch with the brake pedal depressed to start the EV system.

2. Release the parking brake.

3. Shift the selector lever to the N position.

4. Switch the AUTOHOLD off.

5. Press the power switch with the EPB switch pressed and held while the brake pedal is not depressed.

Neutral hold mode cancel procedure

• Neutral hold mode can be canceled by performing any of the following procedures.

― Switch the main power ON.

― Shift the selector lever to the P position.

Note

• When the vehicle receives the neutral hold mode selection, a sound is activated and a message is displayed on the multi-information display.

• If the PCM detects a malfunction in the selector lever or parking lock actuator, neutral hold mode cannot be selected.
