SIDE IMPACT BAR
id091100700100
Purpose, Function
• The side-impact bar and vertical reinforcement suppress the penetration of the doors into the cabin during a side impact.
Construction
• The front door side-impact bar has a wave-shaped section to assure high strength.
• The rear door vertical reinforcement has a large hat-shaped section to assure high strength.
• The catcher pin holds the impact of a side impact that cannot be held by the rear door striker alone, and it connects the door to the side sill to distribute the impact between the vehicle body and the door.
• The door latches installed above and below the rear door and the strikers on the body side are firmly connected, and the vertical reinforcement installed inside the rear door achieves the same strength as a vehicle body with B pillars.
• The side impact bar and the vertical reinforcement disperse the impact during a side collision.
• The impact dispersed by the front and rear doors is received by the door openings on the vehicle body side. For details on the dispersion of impact by the body shell, refer to [BODY SHELL]. (See
BODY SHELL [(E)].)
