Outline

• The approaching vehicle audible system alerts pedestrians in the vicinity of the vehicle of its presence by generating an approaching vehicle alert sound while the vehicle is driven at a low speed.

Function

• The approaching vehicle audible system is controlled by the approaching vehicle audible system device.

• The approaching vehicle audible system device controls the approaching vehicle audible system based on the vehicle speed signal from the electronically controlled brake unit and the selector lever signal from the selector lever.

Approaching vehicle alert sound control function

When driving forward

• As shown in the following graph, the approaching vehicle audible system device changes the warning sound pressure according to the vehicle speed.

When reversing

• The approaching vehicle audible system device generates a constant approaching vehicle alert sound while the vehicle is reversing.

On-board diagnostic function

• If a malfunction occurs, the approaching vehicle audible system device records the malfunction as a DTC.

Operation

1. When the approaching vehicle audible system device receives (1) the vehicle speed signal from the electronically controlled brake unit and the selector lever signal from the selector lever, it generates (2) an approaching vehicle alert sound.
