TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION SYSTEM (TSR) [(E)]

id1510000041a4

Outline

•  The traffic sign recognition system (TSR) provides support for safe driving by displaying traffic signs on the active driving display and the instrument cluster or by notifying the driver of excessive speed.
•  It helps prevent accidents caused by overlooking traffic signs by automatically displaying the traffic signs on the active driving display and the instrument cluster where the driver can easily recognize them.
Note
•  The traffic sign recognition system (TSR) may not operate normally under the following conditions.
―  Camera cannot capture traffic signs
―  Traffic signs are too bright or too dark (including electric signs)

Function

•  The traffic sign recognition system (TSR) displays the traffic sign recognized by the forward sensing camera (FSC) or the speed limit sign sent from the connectivity master unit (CMU) on the active driving display and the instrument cluster. The body control module (BCM) determines the priority between the speed limit sign recognized by the forward sensing camera (FSC) and the speed limit sign sent from the connectivity master unit (CMU).
Note
•  The traffic sign recognition system (TSR) does not operate if the SD card (genuine Mazda) is not inserted.

Excessive speed warning

•  The excessive speed warning activates the warning indicator and warning sound if the vehicle speed, according to the excessive speed set in the personalization features, exceeds the speed limit sign displayed on the active driving display and the instrument cluster.

Personalization feature

•  The traffic sign recognition system (TSR) can be changed as follows. For details on personalization features, refer to [PERSONALIZATION FEATURES] in the workshop manual.
―  Excessive speed warning pattern
―  Warning threshold of excessive speed warning

Operation

Speed limit sign indications (including auxiliary signs)

1.  The forward sensing camera (FSC) sends (1) the speed limit sign (including auxiliary signs) signal to the body control module when all of the following conditions are met.

•  Vehicle speed is 1 km/h {0.6 mph} or more
•  FSC recognizes speed limit sign (including auxiliary signs) and it disappears from FSC angle of view

2.  The connectivity master unit (CMU) sends (1) speed limit information to the body control module (BCM).

3.

4.  When the active driving display and the instrument cluster receive the speed limit sign (including auxiliary signs) display signal, they display (3) the speed limit sign (including auxiliary signs).

5.  The body control module (BCM) sends (4) the speed limit sign (including auxiliary signs) non-display signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster when any of the following conditions is met.

•  Body control module (BCM) determines that vehicle has traveled approx. 2,000 m {1.2 mile} to 3,000 m {1.9 mile} (approx. 50 m {0.03 mile} (50 m when auxiliary signs were displayed) since it displayed speed limit sign (including auxiliary signs) based on forward sensing camera (FSC) information, and there is no speed limit sign information from connectivity master unit (CMU)
•  Body control module (BCM) determines that vehicle has changed lanes based on all following signals, and there is no speed limit information from connectivity master unit (CMU)
―  FSC and CMU are malfunctioning
•  Vehicle speed exceeds speed limit of speed limit sign indicated on active driving display and instrument cluster by approx. 30 km/h {19 mph} or more for approx. 10 s

6.  When the active driving display and the instrument cluster receive the speed limit sign non-display signal, the indicated speed limit sign (including auxiliary signs) is switched to non-display (5).

Excessive speed warning function operation

1.  If the actual vehicle speed exceeds the vehicle speed limit according to the setting in the personalization features by at least 1 km/h {0.6 mph} based on the speed limit indicated on the instrument cluster and the active driving display, the body control module (BCM) sends the TSR excessive speed signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster. The body control module (BCM) also outputs the warning sound signal to the notification and warning speaker (front).

2.  When the active driving display and the instrument cluster receive the TSR excessive speed signal, they flash the speed limit sign.

Do not enter sign indication

1.  The body control module (BCM) sends (1) the do not enter sign display signal to the instrument cluster and the active driving display when all of the following conditions are met.

•  Vehicle speed is 1 km/h {0.6 mph} or more
•  Vehicle speed is less than 80 km/h {50 mph}
•  FSC recognizes do not enter sign and it disappears from FSC angle of view

2.  When the active driving display and the instrument cluster receive the do not enter sign display signal (1), it displays (2) the do not enter sign.

3.  When approx. 10 sec have elapsed since the body control module (BCM) sent the do not enter sign display signal, the body control module (BCM) sends the do not enter sign non-display signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster (3).

4.  When the active driving display and the instrument cluster receive the do not enter sign non-display signal (3), it turn off the do not enter sign display (4)

Stop sign display

1.  The body control module (BCM) sends (1) the stop sign display signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster when all of the following conditions are met.

•  Vehicle speed is 40 km/h {25 mph} or less
•  FSC recognizes stop sign

2.  The active driving display and the instrument cluster display (2) the stop sign when it receives the stop sign display signal.

3.  When the vehicle is running approx. 12 km {7.5 mile} after the body control module (BCM) sent the stop sign display signal, the body control module (BCM) sends (3) the stop sign non-display signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster.

4.  The active driving display and the instrument cluster turn off (4) the stop sign.

No passing/End of no passing sign indication

1.  The body control module (BCM) sends (1) the no passing sign display signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster when the following conditions is met.

•  FSC recognizes no passing sign and it disappears from FSC angle of view

2.  The active driving display and the instrument cluster displays (2) the no passing sign when it receives the no passing sign display signal.

3.  When the vehicle is running approx. 1000 m {0.62 mile} after the body control module (BCM) sent the no passing sign display signal, the body control module (BCM) sends (3) the no passing sign non-display signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster.

4.  The active driving display and the instrument cluster turns off (4) the no passing sign.

5.  The body control module (BCM) sends (5) the end of no passing sign display signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster when the following conditions is met.

•  FSC recognizes no passing sign and it disappears from FSC angle of view

6.  The active driving display and the instrument cluster displays (6) the end of no passing sign when it receives the end of no passing sign display signal.

7.  When the vehicle is running approx. 375 m {0.23 mile} after the body control module (BCM) sent the end of no passing sign display signal, the body control module (BCM) sends (7) the end of no passing sign non-display signal to the active driving display and the instrument cluster.

8.  The active driving display and the instrument cluster turns off (8) the end of no passing sign.
